New Featured Bloggers!

Once again?

I received so many fabulous posts to read this past week.

If you are a blogger and you are annoyed that I haven’t been by recently?  That’s your fault.

Snort!

Invite me and I will come.

Point me to the words of yours that you would like me to read . . . old stuff, new stuff, someone else’s stuff.  I will go everywhere you send me.  Everywhere you invite me.

I am delighted to comment on your words.  You guys can fucking write.

But I need direction.

So Make Me Come.

Just so you know . . . I read a LOT.

But if you want a comment?  If you want to be a Featured Blogger here on Pretty All True?

Make Me Come.

It’s not hard to make me come.

Ahem.

This week, I have two fabulous people you may have noticed commenting around here.

Two writers who touched me with their stories of childhood viewed and remembered from an adult perspective.

And then some insanity.

First up . . .

Chris from Knucklehead Humor

My daughters ride the school bus to school most mornings, and from their stories it is clear that not much has changed since I was a kid.

I remember how fraught with peril the endeavor was.  The politics of seat selection, the people to avoid, the power of invisibility . . . and those few moments when someone challenged the way things worked.  Those few magic moments in my memory in which someone stood up and said, in effect, “Just fucking quit being an asshole!”

Chris writes brilliantly of such a moment in Zen and the Art of Seat Selection.

Go read!

Sarie of Mommy used to be so pretty . . .

Without giving too much away . . . I love when someone’s words seemingly lead me in one direction and then take me somewhere unexpected.

Serious love for a moment of epiphany about motherhood and childhood and the overlap of memory and current experience.

I just love this post.

Magic.

Sarie’s post is Girl, Please.

Serious awesomeness.

Go read!

And finally . . .

David Thorne of 27bslash6

Just so you know?  If you want to know where the funny shit is?  Go to the funniest people you can find and see who they like.  David appears in the blogrolls of both Hyperbole and a Half and Steam Me Up, Kid.

So do other people who do not appear to be the least bit funny, by the way . . . so that is not a hard and fast rule.

But David is awesome.  Dark and hostile and awesomely funny.

I do love that combination.

I lost a good hour clicking through his archives last night, giggling hysterically.

I am not sure how many of you are going to love David as much as I love David, but I do not even care.

You want to know what makes me laugh?

Read this . . . in which David invites himself to a party.

Or this . . . in which David discusses movie-rental late fees.

Or this . . . in which David discusses frogs.

Or this . . . in which David discusses his sexuality with a fan.

Or the post I have featured, in which David helps a woman find her cat.

Shit like this makes me laugh.

A lot.

Share this post. I command it.

Thanks for doing all the leg work and sending us to such great sites. Was I first for the first time?

      • I think you are first!

        Snort!

Not quite as much competition on a Featured Blogger post . . . everyone heads off to read the posts.

        Love you, silly one.

    • You know how I love finding these new people.

Thanks, K. Off to check them out now.
      xo

    • Ummmm….

      Squeeeeeee!

      No, no. I’m good.

      *ahem*

      Thank you very much.

And also…you are so awesome! I read your blog every day! Sometimes I am driving home and thinking about your stories and laugh, or hear something and think, “that sounds like something Kris would say…”, and I promise I’m not crazy, I swear! I just really love your writing and hope someday I can be as poignant as you…

      *ahem*

      I still sound cool, right?

    • David Thorne is ridiculously funny…I totally agree and Missing Missy is the funniest thing ever! I’m going to check out the others as well…

    • I don’t know about the bloggers, but I’m slightly obsessed with the men of Australia, period. My friends were always shocked that I didn’t end up marrying one – well, fuck, it wasn’t for a lack of trying ;)

      • Snort!

I’m not sure the Australian funny men with whom I am obsessed would make fabulous husbands.

        They seem troublesome.

        Ahem.

    • I’m starting with the dude.

    • I am off to read, but I thought I would let you know that “make me come” doesn’t like me :( It won’t let me send you to my blog anymore. Each time I try, I get: “Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact administrator by other way.” So either it is not sending to you, or it is and sends me the error anyway so by now you think I am a stalker.

Anyway, I linked the post I wanted to send to you to my name here.

    • Good picks, you. That Thorne guy seriously had me bawling. I even went out of order and they just kept getting progressively funnier. My daughter had to check on me during the lost cat post!

Love what you do here, btw. I’m sure the folks that are at least new to Twitter appreciate you putting them out like this.

      Always a pleasure! ;)

      • Brandon -

You know how you know you have found a good friend when you laugh at the same things?

        Happy sighs.

        I knew I liked you.

        Kris

    • Holly

Oh. My. God. Thank you Kris for introducing me to David Thorne. It feels like I’ve been doing crunches for days on end, I have never laughed so hard. My husband and I spent the day reading the entire blog and snorting uncontrollably. Thanks again!

      • Holly -

David is my latest word-lust obsession.

He has no idea I exist.

It might be better that way . . . I would be all fawning and inappropriate.

        Ahem.

    • Kris,
I am a long time reader (Jennifer, formerly of Jennifer Writes Here, I am the one who had the blog going w/ my dad) This David guy is so freakin funny, I have my husband and son reading his blog….and now I will not get any sleep tonight, what a good find.

      • Jennifer -

Wait . . . weren’t you here under another ID after Jennifer Writes Here and before Vodka Calling? It’s hard to keep track of you!

And happy sighs that you like David.

I didn’t discover him. He is actually way fucking successful.

        But I found him.

        Love him.

    • I have to do a late comment to say that I have read David before but “lost him” so thank you for reminding me. I love that he can write so many emails and the the people just tell him to forget it. Like the one where he emails his son’s school about being banned from computers and at the end the teacher says “forget it, we’ve lifted the ban.” And he did nothing but just write amazingly funny things. I have spent the last 2 hours reading his posts. Now maybe I will go and read your other suggestions!!
