An amazing place. A chilly, mossy, damp place filled with impossibly large trees that block much of the sunlight. A richer darker green here than I normally associate with California. A richer earthier scent.

Both of my girls have been taking swimming lessons at the lake for the last several weeks. One daughter has, after much time spent in terror of water, caught up with her sister in swimming ability. They are now both lovely swimmers, and my heart aches to see them glide through the water.

We stopped yesterday.

One of my daughters decided to join her cousin and hike up the mountain to the top of the waterfall. One of my daughters stayed behind to play in the stream that ran below the road and under a train track and along a path.
